Martha’s Vineyard Center
for Education & Training

The Island’s provider of workforce and higher education

WHAT WE DO

MVCET is the cornerstone of workforce ed on the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. With the support of employers who serve on our Advisory Boards, we identify needed skills and credentials and partner with agencies, colleges to bring classes to Island residents. We focus on the following types of workforce ed, with a growing emphasis on careers that will help Martha’s Vineyard adapt to climate change: business, renewable energy, trades (construction and technology), educator training, health care, and language and literacy. See our course catalog for current offerings; we are always seeking instructors for specialized skills trainings.

Since 2008,  MVCET has partnered with mainland higher-ed institutions to make college-credit courses available on the Vineyard. Our partners include Bristol Community College, Cape Cod Community College, Bridgewater State University, and Fitchburg State University—with whom we are an official Extended Campus. We are proud of our Cohort Delivery Model, helping Vineyard professionals access a robust learning experience.

Starting in September 2022, MVCET is rolling out Martha’s Vineyard Community College Consortium (MVCCC), a program that brings community college to the Island with gen-ed and core classes that will transfer to associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees—especially helpful for our Island’s youth who graduate high school yet are not ready for a 4-year university.

OUR VISION

We envision a Vineyard community which is economically and culturally rich—whose youth and adults are independent, self-confident and have the ability to achieve professional and personal goals.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide Vineyard residents and workforce with learning experiences that enable them to thrive through skill building, professional development, and credentialing.
